Y5 11+ Week Commencing 9th February (week 2 of 6)
Welcome back, everyone — we hope you had a lovely weekend.
As we approach half term, here are a few important reminders:
1) Mock Test Workshop – 21st February, 4:00–6:30pm
This is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to build confidence in test conditions. We’ll be introducing the answer grids for the first time and giving children the chance to practise using them. It’s an excellent stepping stone between a standard workshop and our first full mock exam in April.
2) Time Focus Workshop – Thursday 19th
Time is an area that often doesn’t receive enough attention in school, and many children find its abstract nature quite challenging. This workshop will give them valuable, focused practice.
3) English Focus Sessions – Starting After Half Term
These sessions will concentrate on reading comprehension and vocabulary development. This is often one of the more challenging areas for children, due to the complexity of language and texts they encounter.
A couple of important reminders

Please do not park on site. The parking spaces belong to other organisations using the venue, and we really appreciate your cooperation.
Attendance
Classes run Monday to Saturday. If your child is unable to attend a session, please let us know as early as possible. We will always try to offer an alternative slot within the same week, where space allows.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support — we’re looking forward to a happy and productive term ahead.

THINGS TO BOOK
OUR LAST MOCK TEST WORKSHOP BOOK HERE
The workshop covers the four key areas of the 11+ exam, giving pupils a clear understanding of what to expect and how to approach each section with confidence. We will also introduce the answer grids, showing children how to use them accurately and efficiently.
The mock test mirrors the workshop content, using the same skills and question styles but based on a different text extract, so children can apply what they’ve learned in a fresh context.
These sessions are designed to build your child’s confidence, improve exam technique, and gradually increase the stamina needed for the real test.
They are the perfect first steps in structured 11+ preparation, setting strong foundations for future progress and exam success.
Spaces are limited to ensure focused support for every child — we recommend booking as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Cost: £65.00. Saturday 21st February 16:00 - 18:30
TIME FOCUS LESSON BOOK HERE
This targeted session helps children build confidence and understanding with telling and working with time — an area many learners find challenging because time is an abstract concept and often not covered in depth at school.
During the 1.5-hour session, we will focus on:
• Reading time on both analogue and digital clocks
• Finding time differences (e.g., “How long between 3:15 and 4:05?”)
• Calculating with time, including adding and subtracting minutes and hours
• Reading and understanding timetables (real-life problem solving)
The session uses step-by-step explanations, visual supports, and practical examples to make time feel more concrete, logical, and easier to understand.
Cost: £40.00. Thursday 19th February 16:30 - 18:00
ENGLISH COMPREHENSION AND VOCABULARY FOCUS SESSIONS BOOK HERE
Mondays 4:30pm or Saturdays 3:30pm
Week 4: Monday 2nd March - Saturday 7th March
Week 5: Monday 9th March - Saturday 14th March
Week 6: Monday 16th March - Saturday 21st March
Many pupils find English particularly challenging, and this is often reflected in lower test scores. A key reason is the breadth and complexity of language they encounter: 11+ English assessments draw on a wide variety of text types, styles, and vocabulary, requiring children to interpret unfamiliar material with confidence and precision.
Our GL 11+ English Comprehension practice is specifically designed to address these challenges. It builds confidence while gradually familiarising pupils with the level of demand, structure, and style of the GL 11+ exam. The carefully crafted texts and thoughtfully structured questions develop core comprehension skills, including vocabulary development, information retrieval, and inference. By exposing pupils to a diverse range of fiction and non-fiction texts, this structured programme strengthens reading stamina, deepens understanding, and equips learners with the skills and assurance they need to approach the 11+ English paper with confidence.
