Building confidence through guided exam practice
Our Mock Test Workshops provide an introduction to 11+ examination-style questions in a supportive, encouraging environment.
Unlike a full mock examination, these workshops focus on helping children understand the questions, develop effective techniques and learn from mistakes.
Children will complete shorter sections of examination-style questions, with opportunities to review their answers, discuss different approaches and develop a clearer understanding of how to tackle challenging questions.
What will children learn?
Understanding question types: Become familiar with the different styles and formats of questions commonly found in 11+ examinations.
Developing effective strategies: Learn how to identify important information, eliminate incorrect answers and approach questions logically.
Improving accuracy: Recognise common mistakes and develop effective checking techniques.
Building confidence: Become more comfortable working independently and attempting unfamiliar questions.
Learning from mistakes: Understand why an answer is incorrect and how to improve next time.
Managing time: Begin developing an awareness of examination timings without unnecessary pressure.
Why attend?
These workshops are particularly beneficial for children who are developing their examination techniques, need additional confidence or would benefit from supported practice before attempting full mock examinations.

Developing the techniques needed for 11+ success
Knowing the answer is only one part of examination success. Children also need to understand how to interpret questions, select effective strategies, manage their time and remain calm when faced with unfamiliar problems.
Our Test Skills Workshops focus on developing these essential examination techniques through guided practice, explanation and discussion.
The sessions encourage children to think carefully about how they approach questions, recognise patterns and develop efficient problem-solving strategies.
What will children learn?
Question interpretation: Identify exactly what a question is asking and recognise important words or instructions.
Elimination techniques: Use logical reasoning to remove unlikely answers and make informed decisions.
Time management: Learn when to move on from a difficult question and how to use examination time effectively.
Accuracy and checking: Develop methods for reviewing answers and spotting avoidable errors.
Problem-solving strategies: Break down unfamiliar or challenging questions into manageable steps.
Working efficiently: Discover techniques that improve both speed and accuracy.
Building resilience: Develop the confidence to persevere when questions initially appear difficult.
Independent thinking: Learn to select appropriate strategies without relying on constant guidance.

Developing vocabulary, language understanding and verbal reasoning
A strong vocabulary is essential for success in many areas of the 11+, particularly verbal reasoning, reading comprehension and English.
Our Vocabulary Workshop focuses on expanding children's word knowledge while teaching them practical strategies for understanding unfamiliar vocabulary.
Rather than simply memorising lists of words, children are encouraged to explore meanings, recognise relationships between words and use context to develop understanding.
What will children learn?
Synonyms: Recognise words with similar meanings and understand subtle differences between them.
Antonyms: Identify words with opposite meanings and strengthen understanding of vocabulary relationships.
Word meanings: Develop a broader understanding of commonly tested and more challenging vocabulary.
Context clues: Learn how to work out the meaning of unfamiliar words using the surrounding text.
Prefixes and suffixes: Explore how word beginnings and endings can provide clues to meaning.
Word relationships: Recognise connections, associations and patterns between words.
Verbal reasoning techniques: Apply vocabulary knowledge to examination-style questions.
Reading comprehension: Develop the language understanding needed to interpret more challenging passages.
Why attend?
Children with a broad vocabulary are often better equipped to understand examination questions, interpret reading passages and tackle verbal reasoning tasks.
This workshop is particularly valuable for children who find unfamiliar words challenging or need to strengthen their language skills.
The focus is on developing understanding, confidence and practical vocabulary strategies that can be applied beyond the 11+ examination.

Realistic examination experience and preparation
Our Full Mock Tests are designed to give children valuable experience of working under timed examination conditions.
Children complete a structured practice examination covering the key areas assessed in the 11+, helping them become familiar with the demands of a formal test.
Mock examinations are an important part of preparation because they allow children to apply their knowledge independently, practise working under time pressure and develop examination stamina.
They also provide valuable insight into areas of strength and topics requiring further attention.
What will children gain?
Realistic examination experience: Become familiar with working independently under timed conditions.
Time management: Practise allocating time appropriately and maintaining a steady pace throughout the examination.
Examination stamina: Develop the concentration and resilience needed to complete longer assessments.
Accuracy under pressure: Learn to balance speed with careful reading and checking.
Identifying strengths and weaknesses: Recognise which subjects and question types require additional revision.
Feedback and improvement: Use the results and feedback to guide future preparation and establish clear next steps.
Reducing examination anxiety: Build familiarity with examination conditions so the actual test feels less daunting.
Why attend?
Regular mock examinations help children measure their progress, identify gaps in understanding and build confidence as the 11+ approaches.
They are particularly valuable for children who have already developed a foundation of knowledge and are ready to practise applying their skills under examination conditions.
